This view is a fill hole on top of
the oven. This would be a "leg breaker" if you stepped
into it unaware.

Harbison Walker had a plant for refractory materials in Birmingham, and
we found loose bricks marked "H W R & Co" elsewhere on the
site.
We did not find evidence of a tramway or "dinky" track"
on top of the coke ovens, although the area was graded flat. (Fig. 20,
