Brock's Gap

This is a key location in Birmingham District and a key part of the story.  I will let the pictures speak.

Thanks to the folks at the Birmingham-Jefferson Historical Society,  for the historical marker at Brock's Gap.

The Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic cut, built about 1907.  This is one of three lines through Shades Mountain at Brocks Gap.  This line became the Atlantic Coast Line, and later CSX.  This view is northbound, toward Birmingham.

The cut to the south of Shades Crest, taken from South Shades Crest Road.
The original line through Shades Mountain, completed in 1871.
