21st Avenue Viaduct
The
article goes on to note that the next planned viaduct would be the 21st Street
structure which is shown in the photo. This was completed and followed by
the 22nd Street, and the 24th Street structures.
Mr. Joe Holly, of the Alabama Department of Transportation has completed an interesting presentation about the history of the 24th Street viaduct, which was rebuilt by the Department about 1996 on the original location. One detail of the structure was the development and construction of an "historical" concrete parapet along the sidewalk, where the viaduct crossed historic Morris Avenue.
