Newcastle Coal Mines

New Castle Coal Company

This view shows the "old" L&N mainline tracks at Newcastle.  There is a train on one of the three tracks visible.

The author currently believes the after 1914, these tracks became part of the local railroad serving Newcastle, and the "post-1914" mainline is located to the right (east) of the viewer.  In addition, the author believes that this track became the alignment of the County Road that is Newcastle Road today.

It appears that the train cars in this picture might be smaller cars than normal hopper cars.  It is possible that there was a narrow gauge "dinky" railroad at Newcastle.

It also appears that the tracks in this image may end at the right of the picture -- this might be a transition in the road layout before these rails were ultimately removed and the road relocated to the railroad bed.

The "new" L&N mainline, built about 1914 is visible in the upper left corner, in front of the "white" church, extending from left to right.
