Enough about
the rail lines. What about the ovens?
The image at the right summarizes the information
discussed previously. It is an aerial photo dated February
1941. Information shown has been documented from other sources
including TCI plats regarding the rail lines, as well as field trips to
the Eureka coke ovens.
The "Old" L&N line dates from the 1860's
and '70's, while the "New" L&N line dates from about
1910. The AB&A line dates from 1907-08. It is interesting
to note that the AB&A line crossed over the L&N Mineral Branch
line, which had been built first, in the 1880's.
The image below is the TCI plat page for section 16,
T20S, R03W, which shows much of the details in question. The
callouts have been labeled. Again, it is interesting to note that
the coke ovens are not labeled, although there is a path/trail/road
indicated through the area where the ovens are found.
