Eureka Coke Ovens

Enough about the rail lines.  What about the ovens?

The image at the right summarizes the information discussed previously.  It is an aerial photo dated February 1941.  Information shown has been documented from other sources including TCI plats regarding the rail lines, as well as field trips to the Eureka coke ovens.

The "Old" L&N line dates from the 1860's and '70's, while the "New" L&N line dates from about 1910.  The AB&A line dates from 1907-08.  It is interesting to note that the AB&A line crossed over the L&N Mineral Branch line, which had been built first, in the 1880's.

The image below is the TCI plat page for section 16, T20S, R03W, which shows much of the details in question.  The callouts have been labeled.  Again, it is interesting to note that the coke ovens are not labeled, although there is a path/trail/road indicated through the area where the ovens are found.
