This image is a page
from a Mining Engineers' Handbook, Edited by Robert Peele, Professor of
Mining Engineering in the School of Mines, Columbia University, First
Edition, published in 1918.
This book belonged to my Grandfather, Arthur G.
Butler, Civil Engineer. Grandfather Butler was given the job of
managing a coal mine in Kentucky around WW I, and bought the book in
1920. He continued his career with Louisville (KY) Gas &
Electric Company as a construction engineer, later moving to Duquesne
Power in Pittsburg, PA, in 1929. That is where my mother met my
father in the sixth grade. That is another story.
The Gates Gyratory Breakers were popular in
Birmingham District and there seem to be a number of examples of these
type footings located in the ore mine areas. |
