This is a view of the
"Cut" as it is called, passing below the approach spans of the
21st Street Viaduct, looking east toward 22nd St South. 1st Avenue South
is located on either side of the cut at this location. The tracks of the
Seaboard Airline RR came into downtown Birmingham about 1904, at grade.
When the grade separation project was planned, and implemented in stages,
the cut's retaining walls were built above the level of the track and fill
placed. |
